The Product Manager Resource Center (or PMRC) was designed and developed by The Wellington Group and Creative Perspectives for product managers at Allergan. The program delivered a suite of introductory level modules that covered diverse business issues and helped prepare product managers for their new role
The site included a diverse set of topics including Business Planning, Market Research, Forecasting, Campaign Development, Strategic Communications, and Budgeting. Each topic was covered at a high level with optional detailed reading that corresponded to a particular topic.
But, beyond simply delivering a program on sound business principles, a goal was to make the learning as real and relevant as possible. As part of the program design, a fictitious product (Ocutan) and product manager were created to help depict applicability and develop context.
For example, in the Product Lifecycle Management module, learners listen to an interview with the product manager about OCUTAN and work through an evaluation exercise. In another module on Forecasting, product managers are tasked with creating a sales forecast for Ocutan using data from the past two years.
The PMRC was well received by both seasoned and new product managers at Allergan. It continues to be used today as a “go-to” resource for Allergan-specific training.
